The former Chennai Super Kings captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, is likely to undergo a fitness test in two days ahead of the match against the Delhi Capitals, as he missed out on the opening 3 games of the season due to a calf strain. MS Dhoni could also take charge as captain for the game against the Delhi Capitals if he is fully fit and available for the game, as reported by Abhishek Trivedi of Revyaz Sports.
The five-time champions are yet to win a game in the season as they have lost all three of their games by a decent margin. Ruturaj Gaikwad’s captaincy has been questionable this season as some of his decisions have backfired. His changes in the bowling order and team selection, excluding Akeal Hosein from the lineup, are aspects that CSK can consider in their rebuilding process. The expertise of MS Dhoni in utilising players and their skill sets is exactly the quality that Ruturaj Gaikwad’s leadership is lacking.

CSK pin hopes on Dhoni’s return as the season hangs in the balance
The Chennai Super Kings have been off to a nightmare start in the season as nothing seems to be working for the side. The two stalwarts of their batting unit, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sanju Samson, have disappointed the fans in each outing. The bowling unit seems to be shaky and lacking direction. CSK used to go into games at the MA Chidambaram stadium as favourites to win the game, as it is a spin-dominant wicket, but in this season, the Punjab Kings managed to chase down 211 in the same stadium.

The only positive that the men in yellow have at hand would be Sarfaraz Khan, as he has put on some phenomenal power-hitting on display. Their bowling has been far from satisfactory, and the captaincy of Ruturaj Gaikwad will need some sharpening.
With the potential arrival of Dewald Brevis and Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the match against the Delhi Capitals, the Chennai fans will be counting on their last ray of hope. As they have lost three consecutive games, it will take quite a few remarkable performances from the side to secure a spot at the top.
