Choudhury’s late blitz seals dramatic win against the Kolkata Knight Riders
The Lucknow Super Giants didn’t look like they were going to chase the target as they seemed lost, and wickets were falling apart. They lost 4 wickets for just 33 runs at one point in the innings, and they required 54 runs to win off the 4 overs with just 3 wickets in hand. With an inexperienced Mukul Choudhury and Avesh Khan, the Kolkata Knight Riders were confident that they had almost secured their first win of the season. Mukul Choudhury wasn’t able to fire in the first two games of the season as he could manage only 16 runs, and KKR would have almost breathed a sigh of relief.
However, Mukul Choudhury had other plans as he decided to take responsibility for the match and give his side another 2 points. At one point, he scored just 2 runs off 8 balls and from then on, he switched gears and smashed a Dhoni-esque helicopter to bring the hopes of the Giants alive. The Lucknow Super Giants required 14 runs to win off the last over, and they had 3 wickets in hand. Mukul Choudhury struck a six off the second ball of the over and made the equation 7 runs from 4 balls. Vaibhav Arora executed two perfect wide yorkers, and Choudhury couldn’t get his bat on them. With 7 required off 2 balls, Mukul Choudhury smashed a six over extra cover to reach his maiden IPL fifty, and the scores became level. In the last ball of the over, Choudhury missed the ball,l but they ran through for a single and secured the victory by 3 wickets. Mukul Choudhury was awarded the Player of the Match for his performance of 54 off just 27 balls, including 2 fours and 7 sixes, at a strike rate of 200.
The Lucknow Super Giants secured another 2 points with two wins on the tr,ot, and they will be happy that they have found a new gem in the lower order in Mukul Choudhury. They moved up to the 5th position in the table, and now, they will be feeling a bit more confident about finishing in the top 4, and their next match will be against the Gujarat Titans on 12th April.
