
Nepal beat Scotland by seven wickets in the 33rd match of the 2026 WT20. This was a Group C fixture and both these sides were already eliminated and this was their final group stage match. Scotland were batting first and started really well with Munsey and Jones going all guns blazing. The openers put up 80 run partnership before Munsey fell. Scotland were 80/1 at the half way mark and the platform for a solid finish was set up. Michael Jones continued his fine form and accelerated as he went past his half century.
Scotland were going at a good rate but Sompal Kami made a return and picked up two wickets in a single over as Nepal clawed back into the game. Scotland collapsed badly as they went from 132/1 to 144/4 in a matter of few overs. They got bogged down in the death overs and kept losing wickets but Mark Watt played a small cameo to help Scotland go to 170 at the end of the first innings.
Sompal Kami was the pick of the bowlers for Nepal as he picked up three wickets. While pacer Nandan Yadav also picked up two wickets. It looked a par score but at Wankhede stadium the chasing side would have favoured it. The match was right in the balance.
Chasing the target of 171, Nepal openers got off to a flier as they put up a fifty run partnership for the opening wicket. Nepal raced off to 49/0 at the end of the first five overs as Bhurtel played a few terrific shots. Scotland put the screws and slowed down the scoring rate. Off-spinner Michael Leask struck in his first over as Nepal lost the first wicket for 74. At the end of the 10 over mark, Nepal were 78/1 and needed a further 90 of the last ten overs with nine wickets in hand.
Michael Leask picked up another wicket and Nepal were pegged back. Nepal captain Rohit Paudel played a few good shots. Scotland spinners kept it tight and Nepal needed 74 runs of the last seven overs with eight wickets in hand. But it was always going to be tough and they needed 59 runs of the last 5 overs. Dipendra Airee played a terrific cameo of fifty to bring Nepal right in the game and Gulshan too supported him well. Airee completed his half century and Gulshan smashed a boundary as Nepal won the match. Dipendra Airee was the player of the match for his terrific performance.
