Jemimah Rodrigues recently spoke at the International Institute of Sports & Management (IISM), emphasizing that the Indian team remains "hungrier" and free of complacency as they prepare for the Women's T20 World Cup 2026 in England. Fresh off their historic maiden ODI World Cup win in November 2025, Rodrigues noted that the squad is focused on building a "winning habit" to secure back-to-back ICC trophies. The BCCI officially announced the 15-member squad on May 2, 2026, with Harmanpreet Kaur continuing as captain and Smriti Mandhana as vice-captain.
"No complacency, we are hungrier after winning the ODI World Cup,” Jemimah Rodrigues said at the event.
Jemimah highlighted that the team is treating every recent series as a stepping stone, maintaining a high-intensity "fire to win". The team is scheduled to regroup at a specialized training camp soon to refine tactical strategies and build on recent series successes, such as their 2-1 T20I series win in Australia. The 2026 team features a mix of seasoned veterans and rising stars like uncapped pacer Nandni Sharma, who earned a call-up after a standout WPL season. India will open their campaign against Pakistan at Edgbaston on June 14, followed by group-stage matches against the Netherlands, South Africa, Bangladesh, and defending champions Australia.

Amol Muzumdar expresses regret over Amanjyot Kaur’s omission from squad due to injuries
India's head coach Amol Muzumdar expressed profound regret over the exclusion of seam-bowling all-rounder Amanjot Kaur from the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup squad during a media interaction at the International Institute of Sports & Management (IISM) in Mumbai. Amanjot is suffering from a recurring back injury (specifically a stress fracture). She has been ruled out of competitive cricket for the next four to five months, making her unavailable for the World Cup in England.
"Very difficult to replace Amanjot, but you can't do anything with injuries. She would be out for 4-5 months,” the head coach commented
Muzumdar emphasized that Amanjot’s absence creates a "major void" in the squad's lower-middle order. She was seen as a rare "three-dimensional" asset who was a pace bowler and could also serve as a power-hitter at No. 7 or No. 8. In her absence, uncapped pacer Nandani Sharma has been called up, while selectors have recalled Radha Yadav and Bharti Fulmali to provide alternative options for the tournament starting June 14.
