Nitish Kumar Reddy has prioritised a team-first mentality during IPL 2026, stating that his primary focus is on fulfilling the team's immediate requirements rather than chasing personal milestones. The interview took place roughly halfway through the IPL 2026 season, following his standout performances that helped Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) turn their season around. Reddy explicitly stated he has no individual goals regarding the number of runs to score or wickets to take. He views his role as stepping in during difficult moments, such as when early wickets fall, to build competitive totals.
“For me, it's about what the team needs from me. Just want to give 100 percent. No individual goals for me to score these many runs and these many wickets. In that situation, whatever the team requires from my side, that's what I want to do”, Reddy opened up.
He aims to provide whatever the team needs at any moment, whether it’s bowling a specific line on the "sixth stump" or adjusting his batting style to suit the pitch conditions. He embraces the aggressive "brand of cricket" his team plays, accepting that while it may occasionally fail, it is essential for the collective strategy.
Nitish Reddy on being impressed seeing young players perform good under pressure
Nitish Kumar Reddy has frequently expressed his admiration for young, "raw" players who step up in high-stakes environments. During the IPL 2026 season, he highlighted the performances of teammates like Salil Arora and Aniket Verma, noting that their willingness to give their best under pressure was highly impressive. Reddy praised young players for being "willing to give their best" even when inexperienced, stating it is impressive to see them perform at the highest level.
“These guys are young and raw. They're willing to give their best and their variations are new for the opponents as well. Impressive seeing them playing under pressure on the big level.”
He noted that young, "raw" players often bring new variations that opponents haven't faced yet, which helps the team in tight situations.
