On this day, May 4, 2015: Chennai Super Kings beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru in a low scoring thriller. It was the 37th match of the Indian Premier League 2015 played between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. It was CSK who were batting first and lost the wicket of Dwayne Smith early. Mitch Starc had a dream start to the game as he bowled a maiden and also picked up the wicket of Smith in the last ball of the over. Chennai Super Kings were in early trouble at 0/1 at the end of the first over.

Brendon McCullum along with Suresh Raina stitched a partnership but just in the final over of the power play CSK lost their second wicket as McCullum fell for 20. Suresh Raina continued playing his strokes and was aggressive throughout the innings. He went past his half century as Chennai Super Kings were ahead in the game. However he did not get much support from the other end. Both Faf Du Plessis and MS Dhoni got starts but could not make it into a big one.

Chennai Super Kings ended the first innings with 148/9 on the board. Mitch Starc was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up three wickets and it was a good effort from RCB at the halfway stage of the game and they were slightly ahead. Chasing the target, Royal Challengers Bengaluru lost three quick wickets in the power play with less than 40 runs on the board.

Virat Kohli consolidated the innings well and made 48 before getting dismissed. Chennai Super Kings bowlers were excellent in the middle overs and also closed out the game very well as Royal Challengers Bengaluru were bowled out for 124 as Chennai Super Kings picked up a 24 run win. It was a closely fought game and a low scoring thriller which was won by CSK in the southern derby.
