The Sri Lankan Cricket Board has been in the news since the commencement of the IPL 2026 for giving NOC to its players to allow them to play in the tournament. Wanindu Hasaranga, the Sri Lankan player, was bought by LSG at the base price of 2 Crores in the auction is currently undergoing rehabilitation and has not undergone the necessary fitness tests to receive a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from SLC.
KKR bought Matheesha Pathirana, but now his arrival has been delayed. Despite being expected to join KKR around April 6th following recovery from a calf injury, the latest reports suggest he is facing delays in getting his NOC from SLC. There are conflicting reports regarding his clearance; while earlier reports expected him to pass, later updates suggest he failed to receive his NOC as of late March/early April 2026.
The latest player who has been deemed unfit by the Sri Lankan Board is Nuwan Thushara. Thushara was supposed to play for RCB in the tournament and was awaiting his NOC to travel to Bengaluru. However, the latest reports suggest that the Board has declined the NOC as he could not clear the test. Thushara, however, asserts that his current fitness levels are as consistent as they were during his career. The failure to get the said NOC would impact his prospects in the IPL as well as other overseas leagues.
Thushara submits a petition to the Colombo District Court
He reportedly submitted a petition to the Colombo District Court, requesting an order that mandates Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) to provide a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to facilitate his participation in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The case, which has been taken up before the Colombo District Court, has the first hearing scheduled for Thursday, April 9.“In his complaint, the pacer has named SLC president Shammi Silva, secretary Bandula Dissanayake, treasurer Sujeewa Godaliyadda, and CEO Ashley de Silva as defendants,” NewsWire reports.
Meanwhile, RCB will play their second match on April 5 against the Chennai Super Kings, who have just come from a loss against the Rajasthan Royals and would be looking forward to winning this one.
