David Miller was acquired by the Delhi Capitals ahead of the 2026 IPL season for INR 2 crores. The team looked up to him as a serial finisher in clutch moments, but after not having a desired season, Miller has been benched in recent games to accommodate a foreign player combination featuring Mitchell Starc and Pathum Nissanka. David Miller, one of the most decorated T20 players in history, has voiced his frustration about missing out on matches for the Delhi Capitals. But he has also been considerate of the fact that the IPL structure demands only 4 foreign players in the Playing XI, and even if he doesn’t get another game time this season, he will be improving himself for next season.
"Obviously, it is frustrating. You always want to play every game, but such is the IPL, the structure of it with only four overseas [players in the XI], the combinations become really important for the team," Miller said. "So I have been around. This is not my first IPL, so I kind of understand the make-up, and it is just really to give positive feedback to the rest of the squad. Always being positive and giving what I can towards the team remains really important for me.
"And then just waiting for my opportunity to come again - if it does come around for the rest of the season or not, I just want to remain ready, prepare really well, that is what we players like to do," concluded the Proteas batsman.
Miller has been one of the players who has featured in every IPL since 2012. He had good seasons with his willow, amassing 418, 446 and 357 runs at good strike rates from 2013 to 2015, for example. And he's had his poor seasons too, including IPL 2026, where he has scored just 123 runs from seven innings at a strike rate of 146.42.
DC IPL 2026 Playoff Qualification Scenario
Delhi Capitals had a rather dry IPL 2026 season. Their bleak batting strength, tactical errors and inability to handle pressure situations have been exposed in every other game this season. They are lingering at the 7th spot in the points table with only 4 games out of the 10 matches played to date.
To reach the playoffs, currently at 8 points, DC needs to win all the 4 matches to reach a point of 16, and then it depends on the other permutations and combinations in the points table too. With the Net Run Rate at a negative, even only winning 3 matches will not be enough for them with 14 points to reach the top four.
