
On this day, April 21, 2022: Chennai Super Kings beat Mumbai Indians in a last over thriller. It was the biggest rivalry of the IPL with Chennai taking on Mumbai Indians in the 2022 season of the IPL. Mumbai Indians were batting first and were jolted early by Mukesh Choudhary. The Chennai Super Kings fast bowler picked up two wickets in the first over. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan both fell in the first over as Mumbai Indians were under huge pressure.
Mukesh Choudhary continued his brilliance with the new ball as he picked up the wicket of Brevis to take his third wicket of the game and Mumbai Indians were rocked early. Tilak Varma played a crucial knock and consolidated the side. He stitched up a partnership with Suryakumar Yadav as they tried to rebuild. Santner came into the attack and picked up the wicket of Suryakumar as Mumbai were 47/4 in the eighth over of the game.
Tilak Varma completed his half century and with decent contributions from the lower order, Mumbai Indians finished with 155/7 at the end of the first innings. Mukesh was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets and it was a decent recovery by Mumbai Indians after the initial struggle and the game was nicely poised at the half way stage. Chennai Super Kings lost the wicket of Ruturaj Gaikwad in the first ball of the chase and were under pressure. Daniel Sams picked up four wickets while Unadkat scalped two wickets as Mumbai Indians kept picking up wickets at regular intervals. Chennai Super Kings were reduced to 106/6 in the 16th over and needed a further 50 runs from the last five overs. Mumbai Indians were slightly ahead at this stage but CSK got a terrific finish from the batters and won the game in the final over of the innings. It was a thrilling game which went down the wire.
