On this day, April 9, 2024: Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Punjab Kings by 2 runs in a thriller. It was the 23rd match of the IPL 2024 between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings. It was Sunrisers Hyderabad who were batting first and they lost an early wicket with Head getting dismissed for 21. Sunrisers Hyderabad lost Markram and Abhishek Sharma in quick time and were reduced to 39/3 and were in all sorts of trouble.

Nitish Kumar Reddy played positively and kept the score board ticking at a good rate. Klassen and Tripathi both were dismissed cheaply. Sunrisers Hyderabad were 100/5 in the 14th over mark. Nitish Kumar Reddy along with Abdul Samad stitched up a 50-run partnership in less than 24 balls as Sunrisers Hyderabad went past 150. Samad played a cameo of 25 runs from just 12 balls.

Sunrisers Hyderabad ended with 182/9 at the end of the first innings and Nitish Kumar Reddy was the standout batter scoring 64 runs of just 37 balls. He stole the show and took SRH to a fighting total at the halfway mark. Punjab Kings started the chase poorly as they lost three quick wickets with just 20 runs on the board. They struggled a lot to maintain run rate in the first ten overs and when Sam Curran was dismissed, they were 58/4 in the tenth over.

Sikandar Raza along with Shashank Singh stitched a partnership as Punjab Kings fought back but Raza fell for 28. Jitesh Sharma played a cameo of 19 runs off 11 balls to help the run rate. Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma once again played brilliantly as they kept PBKS in the game. Ashutosh smashed an unbeaten 33 runs of 15 balls while Shashank Singh scored 46 runs off 25 balls but it was not enough in the end. Punjab Kings ended the innings with 180/6 and lost the game by just 2 runs. It was a thrilling game between these two sides.
