On this day, April 27, 2018: Shreyas Iyer sets up a terrific win for Delhi Capitals against Kolkata Knight Riders. It was the 26th match of the season between Delhi and Kolkata Knight Riders. Delhi were batting first and the openers got off a to a quick start smashing a fifty run partnership. Prithvi Shaw and Munro took on the bowlers in the power play and dominated it completely. Munro was the first to be dismissed for 33.
Shreyas Iyer walked in and started to stitch a partnership with Shaw as the duo kept the run rate high for Delhi throughout the innings. Prithvi Shaw completed his half century and was dismissed for 63. Rishabh Pant was dismissed for a duck as Kolkata Knight Riders made a mini comeback to the game. The match was evenly poised at this stage.
Delhi had a terrific final flourish as Maxwell and Shreyas Iyer helped them post a total of 219 at the end of the first innings. Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten on 93 as Delhi were in a dominant position at the halfway mark of the innings. Chasing the target, Kolkata Knight Riders lost four wickets in the power play and struggled early. It was some very good bowling from the Delhi bowlers.
Gill and Russell built a partnership and tried to fight back but it was too little too late as Kolkata Knight Riders finished on 164 at the end of the innings and lost the game. Trent Boult and Avesh Khan picked up two wickets each while spinners Maxwell an Mishra also shared four wickets among them. Shreyas Iyer was the player of the match for his terrific knock of 93 and it was a special innings from him and a memorable game for the fans.
