On this day, May 2, 2023: Delhi Capitals beat Gujarat Titans in a low scoring thriller at Ahmedabad. It was the 44th match of the Indian Premier League 2023 between Delhi and Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Delhi Capitals were batting first and the track was helpful with the new ball and Mohammad Shami was unplayable in the opening spell. Shami picked up a wicket off the first ball of the match as Phil Salt departed for a duck.
Delhi Capitals kept losing wickets in the powerplay as Mohammad Shami picked up four wickets in his new ball spell. Delhi also lost their captain David Warner via run out as they were reduced to 23/5 in five overs. Delhi were in all sorts of trouble but Axar Patel and Aman Khan put on a good partnership to help them comeback in the game. Axar Patel was excellent as he made 27 but he was dismissed as Delhi went to 73/6. Aman Khan played his shots and put up another partnership with Ripal Patel.
Aman Khan scored his half century which helped Delhi Capitals post a total of 130/8 at the end of the first innings. It was a decent total at the halfway mark but a good recovery considering the position they were in. Chasing the target, Gujarat Titans lost early wickets in the power play as they were reduced to 32/4. Delhi Capitals bowlers were excellent with the new ball and brought them back into the game.
Hardik Pandya stepped up for Gujarat Titans as he smashed a half century to take Gujarat Titans close but in the end they fell short by 5 runs. Gujarat Titans finished their innings at 125/6 as the Delhi Capitals pulled off a thrilling win. It was a low scoring thriller and Delhi Capitals came from behind to snatch the win from jaws of defeat.
