It is a cricket board that, more often than not, forms a part of discussion where taunts and light hearted remarks focused on wayward ways of its or its cricketers’ functioning forms broader cricketing discussion. It tends to become the laughing base of cricket news that lights up fans instead of meriting serious cricketing achievements. And yet again, one would say, the Pakistan Cricket Board finds itself in the centre of a plot that is surely going to draw curious- if not furious- gazes from all corners. So what is the reason behind that. Well, to put it simply, the PCB is at it again!
The PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) grabbed attention by unveiling the schedule for the upcoming home ODI series against Australia.
The two teams are set to clash in a three-match ODI series, with the opening fixture scheduled for May 30.
Pakistan-Australia series to begin on May 30
The contests will take place towards the end of May and the beginning of June 2026, with both sides aiming to use the series as valuable preparation ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Furthermore, here is something to be noted. The final two matches of the series are set to be played at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on June 2 and June 4. Notably, this will mark Australia’s first bilateral ODI tour of Pakistan since 2022.
Earlier on in 2026 itself, Australia toured Pakistan for a three-match T20I series, where the hosts dominated and secured a clean sweep in Lahore. The same series was the precursor to the then impending and soon-to-begin T20 World Cup 2026!
So the above leaves us with an important question- does it not?
And it’s that could it be that the soon-to-begin series might affect the IPL that’s already on?
A pertinent issue with respect to the subject of the announcement of the series could concern Cricket Australia.
They are redoubtable talents. And they are a class act who form the winning fulcrum of their respective sides, particularly from the standpoint of teams like the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the Punjab Kings. Names like Cummins, Hazlewood, Head and Connolly are centered around the discussion.
What’s interesting to note here is that by the time the Australian team is to reach Pakistan, circa May 23, 2026, the IPL playoffs are slated to be in full flow.
In terms of the international standings of the team where it comes to the ICC rankings, those that are jostling at the bottom 6 don’t have a lot to lose and in fact nothing at all.
Teams that shall be most affected by the Pakistan versus Australia series could be those in which Australian cricketers are currently playing.
The Aussie cricketers, currently competing in the famed Indian Premier League could get handcuffed where it comes to missing major cricketing talents and in some cases, names that shine with both bat as well as the ball.
So here’s what begs some critical thinking.
One will have to see whether the likes of Travis Head and Pat Cummins, who form a key foreign player base for a team as renowned as the SunRisers Hyderabad causally do leave their franchise.
Here’s what makes this an interesting narrative to follow!
As on May 6, 2026, the Hyderabad franchise powered by important performances the part of both Travis Head and Pat Cummins easily defeated the Punjab team led by Shreyas Iyer.
At that juncture of the tournament where the IPL is fast approaching the playoff stage, much rests on the shoulders of Head, fine smashing batter who excels in both formats of the game including red ball cricket and the exceptional all rounder that is Pat Cummins.
Will they be actually leaving the Hyderabad team to play the contests against Pakistan?
Much rests on their talents and their respective game changing abilities, does it not?
Having said that above let us look at the schedule of the forthcoming series-
First ODI: May 30, this contest will take place at Rawalpindi
Second ODI: June 2, this contest will take place at Lahore
Third ODI: the final game will also take place at Lahore on June 4
