Former West Indies player Carlos Brathwaite gamely held an umbrella over Player of the Match Azam Khan. This happened after the Karachi Kings clinched a five-wicket win against Rawalpindi.
Just as Azam Khan began his interview to celebrate his match-winning 74 off 34 balls, a sudden downpour forced presenters and staff to scramble for cover. To ensure the interview could continue, Brathwaite gallantly held a large umbrella over the batter while he answered questions. The sight of the towering Brathwaite sheltering the Karachi Kings batter sparked a wave of light-hearted memes on social media, with fans calling it "just PSL things".
Despite a slow start, a massive 120-run partnership for the fourth wicket between Daryl Mitchell (65) and Sam Billings (58) powered them to a competitive 197. Chasing 198, Azam Khan took control of the match, smashing six sixes to bring the required rate down despite being dropped twice (on 36 and 69). Captain David Warner stabilised the early chase with a gritty 35-ball half-century before holing out to deep midwicket. With 5 runs needed in the final over, Abbas Afridi sealed the win by smashing his first ball over long-on for a six. Rawalpindiz’s pace spearhead Naseem Shah had to walk off mid-over during the death overs due to a lower back injury.
