RR confirmed last month that former Sri Lanka stalwart Kumar Sangakkara will serve in a dual role as head coach and director of cricket for the franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Sangakkara has taken over from Rahul Dravid. “Tough decision (on coaching restructuring). Kumar Sangakkara has been a coach before. It was about simplification. No judgment on Rahul Dravid, who remains one of the greatest to have coached India” said Manoj.

Highlighting one of RCB’s headline buys at the auction in Venkatesh Iyer for INR 7 Cr, Mo Bobat explained, “You know, the third real priority that we had was Indian batting cover. And in particular, probably, you know, having somebody that could really challenge for a place in the team and getting Venky Iyer in as somebody who strengthens that batting roster is really, really good for us.”

On the work done in Auction by picking Mangesh, Duffy and Iyer, he said “So they were our main priorities. We obviously had a few other roles as well that we filled. But we felt like if we got high-quality people in those three roles in particular, we could really add value to this squad and this team.”

RCB are the defending champions from 2025 IPL and have a great fan base while Rajasthan Royals who were the inaugural champions in 2008 are eyeing for their second title.
