Chennai Super Kings easily chased down the target of 204 runs on May 10 at Chepauk, against the Lucknow Super Giants. With this win, CSK climbed to the fifth spot of the points table with 12 points and made the race to the play-offs more competitive. For the Lucknow Super Giants, the season is over for them with 8 losses as they become the first team to get eliminated from IPL 2026. CSK’s highlight of the innings was Urvil Patel’s mayhem at Chepauk, where he made a 50* off 13 and became the batsman with the joint fastest fifty in the history of IPL.

He equalled the record previously set by Yashasvi Jaiswal in 2023, playing for the Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens. The 27-year-old also became the first player in IPL history to score 41+ runs in their first 8 balls of an innings.

Although Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad departed early, it was Urvil Patel, the uncapped wicket-keeper batsman, who was the highlight as he scored 65 runs off 23 balls coming at no. 3. He smashed Prince Yadav and Digvesh Rathi for fun. Rishabh Pant, the LSG skipper, too, couldn’t stop himself from admiring Urvil Patel’s knock as something brilliant and compared it to Josh Inglis’ knock for LSG today. “Urvil played a fantastic, unbelievable knock, like Inglis for us. We knew someone had to take the attack, Inglis for us, Urvil for them,” said the LSG Skipper.

Rishabh Pant expresses disappointment with team’s performancef

LSG are out of the equation to reach the IPL 2026 playoffs with 8 losses. They had a devastating season with no department being able to shine through. From faulty inform batters to middle order massacres to bowling debacles, LSG has seen it all. Risabh Pant, the LSG skipper, too, had a season that he would wish to forget. After LSG’s elimination with a defeat against CSK, Pant expressed his unhappiness with the team's performance, and mostly leaving so many catches.

“Definitely, it was a great game. Everything was coming nicely, we knew they'd put us under pressure, as that's how it happens in Chennai. In T20’s, fielding standards have to be there, with too many dropped catches. They held on to their nerves better than us. Definitely, given how we started, we would have liked to aim for more, but we knew close to 200, 210 would be a good target. They got off to a flyer in the power play. But at the same time, we knew that it was getting difficult, and after the power play, the ball was getting older, and it was sort of difficult to bat on the wicket,” the wicket-keeper batsman said.

“That came to my mind (on using Shahbaz in the final over), but two lefties batting, it was a tough call to have. You've got to back someone who can just go over us, and again, as Markram has for a lot of times for us in the past years, also,” he added.
