Rishabh Pant produced one of the most memorable moments of the ongoing second Test between India and Sri Lanka at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo when he smashed Lahiru Kumara onto the stadium roof. The left-hander who was carrying a wrist injury from the previous day, did not hold back against a short ball angled down the leg side. He swivelled from the crease, got inside the line and pulled with pure power. The ball went over fine leg and travelled around 95 metres and crashed onto the roof also breaking a solar panel in the process. Officials had to bring a new set of balls as the original one disappeared from the playing area.  

On the opening day of the second Test, he had been forced to retire hurt after Kumara struck him on the forearm. He walked back out on the second morning once debutant Saransh Jain fell, and immediately set played some brilliant shots. India were 307 for six at that stage. By the time Pant departed for 63, the scoreboard had moved past 400 and the visitors were ahead in the game. The six off Kumara was the standout moment and the video has gone viral on social media.

India dominate Day 2 on the back of Rishabh Pant fifty and Dhruv Jurel century 

On Day 2, Pant took several blows on the body and shoulder from the Sri Lankan pacers yet continued to play his aggressive game. His partnership with Dhruv Jurel was a crucial 112-run stand that put India in a dominating position. India were comfortably at 419 for six at Lunch with both batters still at the crease. Pant’s dismissal came immediately after the break. He charged down the track to Keshara Nuwantha, mistimed the shot and was caught at deep mid-off. His fifty came in 81 balls with a pulled four through square leg. The celebration was a simple raise of the bat with the dressing room acknowledging his knock. He was dismissed on 63 from 89 balls, with six fours and two sixes. After getting hit on Day 1 it was a brave effort from the left-hander who played really well.

After the dismissal of Pant, it was Dhruv Jurel who continued to anchor the innings and smashed a century. His knock helped push the total past beyond 500 before the declaration. Sri Lanka lost two wickets by the end of Day 2 and it was a dominant performance from India. The highlight of the day will remain Pant's outrageous shot that hit the roof of the stadium which went viral on social media. India are leading the series 1-0 and with three more days left in the match they are well placed to push for a win.
