Rohit Sharma was dismissed for a golden duck in his second Vijay Hazare Trophy match for Mumbai this season, at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Playing against Uttarakhand, Rohit was dismissed off the very first delivery he faced by medium fast bowler Devendra Singh Bora, as he attempted his trademark pull shot to a short ball. There was no live streaming for this match but fans and reporters who were on ground mentioned that he was dismissed trying to play his favourite pull shot when ball hit the splice of the bat.
Thousands of fans had turned up to watch a glimpse of Rohit Sharma feature in the domestic fixture on Friday, December 26. Some of them were even seen making their way to the Sawai Mansingh Stadium as early as 6 am local time, despite the winter cold just to catch a glimpse of their favourite star. Mumbai were going to bat first and knowing this many others would have come in to the stadium but unfortunately he was dismissed early.
According to the reporters on ground, a large section of fans began leaving the stadium immediately after Rohit’s dismissal. The atmosphere at the venue fell silent once the catch at deep square leg was taken. A few supporters were also seen calling for a no-ball and were hoping that the fielder drops the catch just to watch the Indian batter perform at Jaipur. This was the same venue where Mumbai played their last game.
Mumbai won their previous match against Sikkim. In that match he hammered a hundred off just 62 balls and ended up scoring 155 in 94 deliveries. The opener’s swashbuckling knock propelled Mumbai to a comfortable 8-wicket win and Rohit was adjudged the Player of the Match for his efforts. That was his second Vijay Hazare Trophy and that 62 ball hundred was one of his quickest.
This was likely Rohit Sharma’s last appearance for this Vijay Hazare Trophy season as all players were instructed to play just two games. His next assignment will now be the One Day Series against New Zealand which starts January.
