India former captain Rohit Sharma got off to a flying start in the IPL 2026, scoring 78 off just 38 deliveries in Mumbai Indians opening game against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Courtesy his knock and Shardul Thakur’s three-fer, Mumbai Indians finally managed to break their 14-year long drought of not winning the first game of the season in IPL.
Post Rohit Sharma’s knock, former players and commentators had all praises for Rohit - who not only scored match winning runs, but also lost as much as 15 kgs - making him look focused to score big this season.
Ambati Rayudu, who has played with Rohit Sharma for both Mumbai Indians and India said that it looks like Rohit Sharma will score over 500 runs in the season.
In the past years, Rohit Sharma has struggled to score over 350 runs in the season and has had before par seasons - especially with the credibility he carries.
However, he looks focused and even in the dressing room after the match got over, he ended up saying “let’s keep our head down and feet on the ground” which made him look even more focused.
It will be interesting to see if Rohit Sharma can go past 500 runs this season.
