The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) took firm control of their IPL 2026 match against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium today (5 May 2026). The highlight of the evening so far was a major breakthrough at the end of the Powerplay that left the home side in a spot of bother. In the final over of the Powerplay (5.1 overs), CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad produced a moment of leadership in the field. DC's star opener KL Rahul attempted to charge down the track against spinner Akeal Hosein to clear the ropes. Rahul didn't time the shot cleanly, slicing it high into the air. Gaikwad, stationed at mid-off, settled under the ball and completed a safe catch to send the opposition captain back to the pavilion for 12 runs off 13 balls.

After securing the wicket of KL Rahul, Akeal Hosein broke into his signature "ice-cold" celebration, which has already become a viral hit this season. Following the dismissal, Hosein maintained his cool, often standing still with a minimal or "mask" reaction that signifies his calm under pressure. This was a tactical masterclass, as Hosein finished his opening spell to end the Powerplay with figures of 1/15 in 3 overs, having completely stifled the DC top order on a surface that showed early signs of turn.

CSK dismisses DC openers within Powerplay

In today's IPL 2026 clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium (5 May 2026), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) dismantled the Delhi Capitals (DC) top order with a clinical Powerplay performance, dismissing both openers to take early control of the game. CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad set the tone with his safe hands, completing a critical catch to remove DC's captain and star opener KL Rahul.

The pressure was already mounting at the other end as Mukesh Choudhary operated with clinical precision. Pathum Nissanka, who had looked to provide a quick start, was undone by Choudhary’s disciplined line.Nissanka was dismissed for 19 runs off 15 balls, a vital breakthrough that ensured both established openers were back in the dugout before the fielding restrictions were even lifted.
