Sanju Samson powered Chennai Super Kings to an 8-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals today, finishing unbeaten on 87 off 52 balls. While Samson narrowly missed out on a century today, he remained the anchor of the chase as CSK successfully hunted down a target of 156 with 15 balls to spare. He took a liking to Mukesh Kumar’s pace, carving him for three boundaries in one over. Once the field spread, he rotated the strike with clinical precision, never letting the required run rate climb above 8. He effectively ended the contest in the 16th over by smashing Kuldeep Yadav for consecutive sixes over long-on.

While Samson missed the milestone, his strike rate of 167.31 earned him the Player of the Match award. DC never really found their rhythm after being put into bat. A 60-run partnership between Sameer Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs gave DC a fighting total, but it was never going to be enough on a true batting surface. Jamie Overton and Anshul Kamboj executed perfect yorkers in the final three overs, conceding only 22 runs.

DC moves to 7th position on points table

Following today's loss to CSK, Delhi Capitals (DC) are currently 7th in the IPL 2026 points table. With this win, CSK moves to 10 points from 10 matches. They currently occupy the 6th position, staying within touching distance of the top four. Samson continued his sensational form in 2026, where he has already recorded two centuries this season. This was his second major performance against Delhi this year, following his 115 (56)* in April.

Opting to bat, Delhi reached 155/7. Sameer Rizvi top-scored with a quick-fire 40 (24)*, while Tristan Stubbs added 38 (31). Ruturaj Gaikwad fell early for 6, but Samson anchored the chase with Kartik Sharma (41 off 31)* in a century-plus stand. Akeal Hosein (1/19) and Noor Ahmad (2/22) were the pick of the bowlers for CSK, keeping the Delhi batters in check throughout the first innings. DC must win their remaining 4 matches to hit the 16-point safety threshold. Their next game is against Kolkata Knight Riders on May 8.
