
Sarfaraz Khan has been in terrific form in the last few months across the domestic circuit. He continued his brilliant form as he broke multiple records today in the match against Punjab. On January 8, Mumbai and Punjab faced off at the Jaipuria Vidyalaya Ground where Sarfaraz Khan broke the record for fastest every half-century by any Indian List A batter scoring a half century of just 15 balls and eventually scored 62 runs in 20 deliveries. His knock included seven boundaries and five sixes. Despite his brilliant innings Mumbai ended up losing the match by one run.
Punjab were batting first and posted a total of 216 runs in the first innings. Abhishek Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh were dismissed cheaply. Anmolpreet Singh looked in good touch scoring 57 runs and Ramandeep Singh scored 72 runs in 74 deliveries as Punjab managed to sneak to 216. Musheer Khan was the highest wicket-taker for Mumbai with three scalps. While Onkar Tarmale, Shivam Dube, and Shashank Attarde took two wickets each.
Mumbai started really well in the chases and Sarfaraz Khan came into bat at Number 3 when the score was 57/1. He took on the bowers straight away and scored a half century in just 15 balls. He smashed 30 runs of a single over of Abhishek Sharma which included three sixes and three fours. The previous record of fastest half century was 16 balls. Sarfaraz Khan fell for a brilliant 62. Shreyas Iyer scored 45 runs in 34 deliveries and Mumbai looked in good position.
Despite getting a good platform, a remarkable collapse followed. Mumbai were 210/5 and needed seven runs to win with five wickets in hand with more than 20 overs left. What looked an easy chase suddenly turned on its head as Mumbai lot their last five wickets for just five runs and were bowled out for 215, falling short by one run. For Punjab, Mayank Markande and Gurnoor Brar picked up four wickets each to help their side clinch a thrilling win.
