In what was a special and widely respected ceremony held most recently in the city of Mumbai, the revered Maharashtra Cricket Association held a presentation ceremony spread over a fantastic evening in which a gaggle of cricketing talent, young, emerging, established as well as pre eminent were honoured for their achievements and talents. The said ceremony rewarded rich cricketing talents keeping in mind the 2024-2025 and the 2025-2026 cricketing seasons! It would not be incorrect to address the occasion as a special grand award winning occasion for several among Indian cricketing talents whose contribution towards upholding the dignity and success of the game at the regional and national level is indeed special! In other words, talents who have furthered the presence of Mumbai’s cricketing heritage found themselves rewarded for their successes.
Having said that, what was further interesting was to witness the sheer scale of talent in terms of those in attendance of the event that furthered or amplified the reach of the bedazzling ceremony. The likes of cricketing legends such as Sir Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Diana Edulji- whose contributions towards developing and growing cricket in Maharashtra and in turn, Indian cricket is second to none- were in presence. As was also the case with esteemed Cabinet Ministers such as Ashish Shelar and Aditi Tarkare who added to the might of the event in the August company of MCA president, Shri Ajinkya Naik. Those in attendance underlined the power and the aura of a truly mesmerising cricketing force that we know as Maharashtra Cricket.
Having said that, a key tenet of this esteemed event was the presentation of awards to three key members of Indian Cricket. Among those who received awards for decorated contributions to the game were Shardul Thakur (currently with the Mumbai Indians), Ayush Mhatre (Under 19 captain) and Siddhesh Lad. While Lad and Thakur received the Justice Tendolkar Trophy that recognised them as the Best Senior Cricketers for the 2025-26 and 2024-25 seasons respectively, the ceremony also recognised the tantalising talent of rising cricketing talent Ayush Mhatre.

Lest we forget, the CSK top Order batter (who unfortunately will now have to sit out of the season owing to injury) had actually captained the Under-19 Men’s World Cup-winning team.
The list of other award winners in this prestigious ceremony also included- India’s current T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube (who’s also part of the CSK squad in the current edition of the IPL), two critical members from the Men’s T20 World Cup-winning team.
Other cricketing talents that were recognised for their contributions happened to include Abhigyan Kundu from the Under-19 Men’s World Cup-winning team; and Jemimah Rodrigues, whose brilliant batting helped further India’s cause in its most recent ODI women’s World Cup (which was hosted in India).
Another interesting facet about the event was that the revered Maharashtra Cricket Association also highlighted the efforts of certain winning teams, not just the individual talents. The MCA extended awards to the championship teams from the 2024-25 season. This, notably included the teams that won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as well as the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy, Under-14 West Zone Championship, Under-23 Women’s One-Day Trophy, Vijay Merchant Trophy (Under-16), and Women’s Under-15 One-Day Trophy. In such decorations, strong performances across various age groups were considered.
