Varun Chakravarthy had a dry patch in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2026, and that form continued at the start of IPL 2026. Varun was struggling in the initial three matches that posed a troubled for KKR as they are heavily dependent on the spin duo Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine. Since the match against the Rajasthan Royals, Varun has got back on track with his fiery, unplayable spells along with Sunil Narine, troubling the opposition in the middle orders. His excellent game against RR and against SRH (3 wickets) on May 3rd helped KKR to win three consecutive games and stay alive in the tournament.

Varun Chakravarthy gave an emotional statement about his wife, expressing that she supported him while he had no fame and said she could manage the finances, motivating him to keep playing cricket. The KKR spinner said that the majority of his performance credit goes to his wife for her belief in him and her sacrifices.

“When I didn’t have a job, I told my wife not to trust me and not to stay with me anymore. But she believed in me. She gave me confidence and said, ‘Play cricket, earn 5–6 thousand, I’ll manage the rest.’ When I had nothing, she stood by me and believed in me. Nothing can be greater than that. I truly feel very lucky that my wife supported me like this.“If my wife wasn’t with me today, I wouldn’t have been able to reach this position. So a big part of the credit for where I am today goes to my wife,” said Varun Chakravarthy.

“As the tournament goes on, Spin comes into play,” Said Varun Chakravarthy after the win against SRH

Kolkata Knight Riders got their third consecutive victory of the season with a dominating 7-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday May, 3rd. Despite getting to 105 in the first 10 overs, losing only one wicket, SRH just posted 165 on the board as they fell to spells by Narine, Varun Chakravarthy and Kartick Tyagi. On return, KKR easily chased the total as Ajinkya Rahane’s and Angkrish Raghuvanshi’s partnership of 84 took them closer to the target, with Rinku finally finishing it after scoring a 11-ball 22.
