Indian T20I captain Shreyas Iyer etched his name into the record books on Thursday by becoming the first player in the world to win the toss in each of his first eight men's T20Is as captain. Iyer, who replaced Suryakumar Yadav as India's T20I captain after the 2026 T20 World Cup, achieved the feat during the third T20I against Zimbabwe in Harare.
After winning the toss, Iyer elected to bowl first. It marked his eighth successive toss win as India's T20I captain, extending a remarkable streak that began in his first match in charge at Ireland. He went on to win all five tosses in the England tour and then followed it up with another win in Zimbabwe.

Shreyas Iyer is now the first player in the world to win the toss in each of his first eight men's T20Is as captain. In doing so, he surpassed the previous record of seven consecutive toss wins held by Bahamas captain Gregory Taylor.

The Indian skipper has also matched an 88-year-old men's international record. He is only the second men's international captain to win the toss in each of his first eight matches, joining England's Wally Hammond.

The 32-year-old also became the first Indian captain to win eight consecutive tosses in T20Is. The previous Indian record was held by MS Dhoni, who won seven successive tosses as India's T20I captain between May 2010 and February 2012. Among captains from ICC Full Member nations, however, the record is still held by former West Indies captain Daren Sammy, who won 10 consecutive tosses in T20Is.
