In the match against the Gujarat Titans, Shreyas Iyer was fined INR 12 Lakh as his team maintained a slow over rate. "As this was his team's second offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL's Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Iyer was fined INR 24 lakhs. The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, will be fined either INR six lakhs or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser," said the IPL after the match. Also, if the same offence is repeated in this season of the IPL, Shreyas could be banned for a match and fined INR 30 Lakh. The Punjab Kings skipper will be cautious not to repeat the offence as they have an important set of 12 matches left in the season.
Punjab Kings’ Charge Continues as Shreyas Iyer Walks a Fine Line
The Punjab Kings had a fine outing at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai as they outplayed the hosts. In the 1st innings, Punjab did a decent job to get rid of a few dangerous batters, but Ayush Mhatre proved to be simply too good. With a total of 210 on board, the Punjab Kings knew that the target was achievable. They got off to a flying start in the chase as the openers put up a partnership of 61 runs. Then Cooper Connolly and Shreyas played a fine hand in securing the chase for a side with some handy knocks. They seemed to lose their way towards the end as they lost two wickets in successive balls, but Shashank Singh and Marcus Stoinis powered the Punjab Kings to a victory by 5 wickets.
In their next match, they will be taking on the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, and the Punjab Kings will be hopeful that they can secure another win on the trot. Shreyas Iyer and his men will also be wary of the slow over rate, as one more offence could result in stricter punishments.
