The Gujarat Titans formidable opening duo of Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharshan brought up their 100-run partnership against the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026 Qualifier and it was a timely one. It wasn’t the easiest of run chases against the fiery pace of Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger.
But both of them scored runs in a very controlled manner with minimal risk except the difficult chance that was put down by Donovan Ferreira off the batting of Sai Sudharshan. Gill and Sudharshan have given the Titans exactly what they needed in such a high-stakes run chase and this could prove to be game-changing.
The Rajasthan Royals are just reeling away at the moment as they have been unable to break the partnership. Jofra Archer has been their strike bowler throughout the tournament with the habit of picking wickets off the very first ball or at least in the first over.
Nandre Burger was another one of their main bowlers but he too has struggled in front of the dangerous Shubman Gill. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be any kind of hope for the Royals to claw back into the game. It would be a really difficult fightback from here and it almost seems impossible at this stage of the game.

GT’s dominant opening pair dismantles RR in 2nd innings
In the 2nd innings of the game, the Gujarat Titans had a strong total to chase down in the 20 overs and it definitely required a commanding start. Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharshan have been a consistent opening pair as they have very often given the Titans some good starts.
This time it has come in the Qualifier 2 of the season and it has been the most needed one as well. Gill and Sudharshan have always been highly regarded and amongst the highest run-getters of the season as well. Over the years, these two have been a headache for the bowlers and today, they have stolen the game away from the Rajasthan Royals.
Despite the wicket of Sai Sudharshan, the Titans are in a very comfortable position to win the game and there aren’t many chances of them losing the match from here on in. However, Sudharshan will have to work on his bat grip as two hit wicket dismissals in two consecutive games isn’t a feat that has been achieved by many batters.
Such costly mistakes could cost dearly in high stakes situations and otherwise, this opening duo would be a pain for RCB. They are almost through to the finals in Ahmedabad against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and they will be eyeing the grand finale.
