The Indian skipper Shubman Gill was all praise for the performance of Yashasvi Jaiswal as he played a blistering knock against Afghanistan in the run-chase. Fortune hasn’t always favoured Jaiswal as even though he’s a top quality player, he hasn’t found a spot in the starting squad. Shubman Gill claimed that he’s a phenomenal player and that it is quite unfortunate that he misses out on several occasions. Yashasvi Jaiswal played one of the best innings of his ODI career in the game against Afghanistan and he will be hopeful of getting some more opportunities in the international stage.

"We all know he is a phenomenal player and it's not easy for any player to sit out," Gill remarked. "If all the players are available, he is the unfortunate one who sometimes misses out," stated Shubman Gill during his post-match conference against Afghanistan. The Indian skipper acknowledged that it is quite unfortunate he is missing out on many of the games played because of the abundance of talent they have in their side.

India's batting depth could make Jaiswal wait longer

The Indian batting unit has been one of the most well balanced batting sides in World Cricket and especially in ODI cricket. The top 5 of India’s ODI setup has been cemented in the last couple of years and they have worked wonders over the years. Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul are the top 5 that have been almost immovable for India. To find a spot for Yashasvi Jaiswal in the starting squad, feels almost impossible with the kind of quality India has in their batting order.

“He got a couple of games in this series and he played really well today; So, hopefully he will continue to perform and he will continue to keep grabbing the opportunities that he gets,” added Shubman Gill on the performance that Yashasvi Jaiswal showcases every time he gets an opportunity to perform in the side.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s knock against Afghanistan was hailed by many experts for the kind of way that he constructed his innings over the due course of time. Even though he struggled early in the innings with a string of dot balls, he was able to overcome the challenge by generating momentum gradually. Jaiswal ended up scoring a massive knock of 110 runs from 86 balls, including 14 fours and 3 sixes, striking at 127.91. His partnership along with Rohit Sharma lasted for 170 runs and it was the partnership that helped India secure the run chase within 30 overs.

Even though Yashasvi Jaiswal has played a fine innings, it is almost inevitable that he will lose his spot in the next ODI, with the return of Virat Kohli into the squad. Jaiswal will have to wait for his chances in the team and he could possibly get a permanent spot in the squad after the retirement of Rohit Sharma. The left-handed opener will be keen on performing in every opportunity possible until he gets a cemented spot in the squad.
