Indian test skipper Shubman Gill has made his intentions clear with the side and on what could be the success formula for India’s test side. He stated that during a phase of transition, the batting unit is under more pressure and that they are trying to gain experience. India’s dominance in Test cricket was once again visible with their formidable display against Afghanistan in New Chandigarh. Gill also expressed his confidence in the bowling attack stating that India’s bowling unit can pick up 20 wickets anywhere in the world. For a side undergoing transition, Shubman Gill is trying to solidify the core of the Indian test unit.
“Whenever there's a transition, we feel the batting group is under more pressure and we are trying to get experience. We're trying to build here to see what kind of game can work for us as a batting group and in different conditions and different situations. How we can keep posting 350-400 totals on the board,” stated Shubman Gill after the victory against Afghanistan in the One-off test match. India wrapped up the test match in just three days and the bowlers were once again on top of their game, dismantling the Afghanistan batting unit.

Skipper Gill backs his bowlers to pick 20 wickets everywhere
The experts claimed that India was undergoing a phase of transition when they toured England in 2025 and the retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli did impact their batting unit. Shubman Gill captained the side in England and they did a good job to draw the series 2-2. India’s batting unit has been dependent on mainly three batters- KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill. India definitely do need some sharpening in the batting unit as the number 3 spot is a crucial slot in test cricket and they are still yet to find a solid batter in that slot.
India’s test bowling unit were on song against Afghanistan in the One-off test match in New Chandigarh with Manav Suthar leading the bowling attack. The debutant went on to pick up 7 wickets in the test match and that put India in a comfortable position. Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav were also dominant in the second innings as they picked up 7 wickets altogether. The bowling attack of India is potent to pick up wickets anywhere in the world as the pace bowling unit is spearheaded by the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj.
As India is undergoing a phase of transition in their test squad, they will be looking to have a solid top 4 in their batting unit as it is key to their success. Yashasvi Jaiswal has been undergoing a slight form dip in recent times and he will be looking to return to form. India’s bowling capabilities will be tested on foreign conditions and Shubman Gill will be hopeful of building a dominant test side as the skipper of the side.
