Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill pulled off a stunning diving catch to put an end to Shivam Dube’s knock at 47 runs. The Titans hosted the Chennai Super Kings in the 66th league-stage clash of the tournament on Thursday, May 21 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The game saw visiting skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad winning the toss and inviting the rivals to bat first in a must-win game for the Yellow Army. Sai Sudharsan and Gill gave the side a flying start by recording key knocks of 84 and 64 runs, respectively.

Not only this, but wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler pulled off a 27-ball 57 with a combination of five boundaries and four maximums to help the hosts put 229 on the scoreboard. In return, the five-time IPL winners got off to a disappointing start and lost their opener and talismanic batter Sanju Samson on a golden duck. No batter from the visiting side managed to stand firm on the crease before Shivam Dube, who walked in at sixth.

Dube piled 47 runs in 17 balls and was just short of three runs for his fifty before GT skipper Shubman Gill took a stunning dive to send the all-rounder back to the hut. On the third ball of the eleventh over bowled by Rashid Khan, Dube hit the ball off the toe-end to send it flying over extra cover. The GT captain ran back and dived to hold it with both ends.

Shubman Gill ā€˜silences’ CSK fans after taking Shivam Dube catch

Right after he grabbed the catch, Gill threw the ball up and pointed his finger to the lips and gestured to the CSK supporters to be silent. He also asked them to get going. Needless to say, to see Gill, who is generally known for his calm and cool demeanor, reacting with such fierceness was a treat for GT fans. With Dube’s dismissal, CSK were reduced to 116-6.

Even after his dismissal, the Yellow Army couldn’t get back on their feet and kept losing one wicket after the other to eventually record an embarrassing 89-run defeat. With this, their playoff hopes for the IPL 2026 season came to an end.
