Sanjiv Goenka is taking the RPSG Group's cricket ambitions to the next level with an exciting new infrastructure project in England. They've just inked a multi-million-pound deal with Lancashire County Cricket Club to set up a high-performance centre right near the iconic Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester.
This agreement includes acquiring land behind Old Trafford, where they'll be building a state-of-the-art training facility. The goal is to enhance player development and establish top-notch support systems for professional cricketers across all of RPSG Group's teams, while also elevating the cricket infrastructure at one of England's premier venues.
Goenka described cricket as a key part of the RPSG Group's sporting investments and said the partnership reflects the company's long-term commitment to the game as he said, “Lancashire Cricket shares our ambition to build facilities that give players every opportunity to succeed, and we are proud to be investing alongside them in a project that will benefit the Club, the Super Giants family and the wider game for years to come."
RPSG Group Strengthens Global Cricket Footprint
The new center is set to give a major boost to Lancashire's current indoor training complex. This upgraded facility will feature indoor practice nets, a gym, outdoor training areas, sports science support, and medical facilities. It's anticipated to cater to players from the Lucknow Super Giants, Manchester Super Giants, and Durban Super Giants, as well as international and touring teams that come to Old Trafford. This initiative is part of a broader strategy by RPSG Group and Lancashire Cricket to enhance cricket infrastructure at both Old Trafford and AO Farington Cricket Ground.
The investment comes at a positive time for the RPSG Group's franchises in The Hundred 2026. The Manchester Super Giants men's team has made a perfect start under Aiden Markram, winning both of its opening matches.
Meanwhile, the Meg Lanning-led women's side sits second in the standings with one victory and one defeat. With the tournament still in its early phase, both teams will be looking to build momentum as they chase their first Hundred titles. Their next fixtures are against Sunrisers Leeds on Tuesday at Headingley.
Looking beyond The Hundred, RPSG Group has been steadily broadening its footprint in global franchise sports. They acquired the Lucknow IPL franchise for a whopping INR 7,090 crore in 2021, which led to the formation of the Lucknow Super Giants. In 2023, they added the Durban Super Giants to their roster for South Africa's SA20 league. Previously, the group managed the Rising Pune Super Giants during the 2016 and 2017 IPL seasons when two franchises were put on hold.
