India were on the receiving end of a disastrous and humiliating defeat in their Super 8 curtain raiser against South Africa on Sunday. The Men in Blue were handed a shameful 76 run defeat at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With this, India’s miraculous run 12 match winning streak at the T20 World Cup came to an end and now they will have to build from scratch.

Following Sunday’s defeat, India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav blamed his side’s poor and below par batting and said that his side lost too many wickets while there was a need of a partnership in the middle.

“Sometimes you’ve got to think, if you’re chasing 180-185, you can’t win the game in the power play, but you might lose the game in the power play. We lost too many wickets in the powerplay, and then we couldn’t build the small partnerships we wanted while chasing 180-185, but that’s part of the game,”

He also appreciated South Africa’s batting lineup while also praising his bowlers at the post-match presentation.

“We're always in the game. When we started, I think we bowled really well in the beginning — 20-21 for three — and the way they batted after that, from 7 to 15 (overs), I think they batted really well. And then we came back again in the game later on. Overall, if we see, we bowled really well, but we could have batted a little better,”

The skipper also opened up about how his side will approach the remaining two Super 8 games and said that he is confident about a comeback.

“Hopefully bat well, bowl well and field well, that's it. We'll try and keep it simple. Play the same brand of cricket which we want to play, and nothing changes. I’m confident we’ll bounce back strongly,”
