Suryakumar Yadav once again departed cheaply in the fifth T20I in Ahmedabad on Friday against South Africa. Suryakumar came into bat when India were 97/2 in the 10th over. He was dismissed shortly thereafter (115/3) to perish quickly once again. Fans in twitter were furious as Suryakumar has failed completely this year and considering he is the captain, he is expected to perform well but another failure did not sit right with the fans. Suryakumar came in with a solid platform set for him to build India’s innings further. However, he failed to showcase his authority before Corbin Bosch dismissed him. Suryakumar backed himself to go big and and was caught at mid off. The Indian captain looked fidgety in his knock.

After being dismissed for 12 runs in the 1st T20I in Cuttack, Suryakumar perished for 5 runs in New Chandigarh. In the 3rd T20I, he scored 12 runs in Dharamsala. And now, he managed 5 runs in Ahmedabad. Suryakumar Yadav is playing his 21st T20I this year and he has managed 218 runs at 13.62. His strike rate was 123.16. His best score in T20Is this year was 47*.

Suryakumar Yadav has struggled against pace bowlers in 2025. Across 19 innings, he scored 123 runs against pace at an average of 8.20. He was dismissed 15 times and his strike rate against pace is just 112.84. With the WT20 scheduled next year the pressure is piling up on his to deliver.
There is so much competition for spots in Indian team with Samson not being a regular despite doing well. However both will be part of India’s T20 World Cup squad, with Suryakumar set to be in the playing XI as well. However, if India need Suryakumar in prime form to have a shot at the title next year. India set a target of more than 230 for South Africa in the fifth T20I thanks to half centuries from Hardik and Tilak.
India will play five more T20Is before the 2026 World Cup. While these games are crucial for Suryakumar they will also be important for Shubman Gill to find form before the showpiece event. India are expected to announce the squad soon.
