Former India fielding coach T Dilip revealed the most impressive quality of former India skipper Virat Kohli. He also lauded the talismanic batter, and reflected the impression he has on his teammates. Notably, Dilip is the former fielding coach of the Indian men’s senior team, and his stint with the team came from 2021 until the recent T20I series in Zimbabwe, except for a brief period in 2025. Talking about Virat Kohli, the legendary batter is known for his sheer aggression and discipline both on and off the field.
Even at the age of 37, Kohli remains India’s one of the most agile fielders, and his catches in recent times have been a solid testament to it. Dilip reflected on Kohli’s fielding skills and said that his intensity is always contagious. "What impressed me most is not the actions that he does when the ball is at him. Even when the ball is not at him, you'll see him running to the non-striker end to take the throw and throw it back to the wicketkeeper,” Dilip added.
“That intensity is always contagious when he is around. With him, there is not much difference between a practice session and a match,” he went on to say. "That's very important because it's just not Virat Kohli who is fielding. There are five others fielding with him who stretch the limits when they are doing it with him. That's his actual influence on the group."
Notably, Kohli is currently India’s all-time leader in catches across formats with 344 catches in 562 games.

T Dilip Lauds Virat Kohli’s Intensity While Fielding
Dilip also went on to laud Virat Kohli’s intensity while fielding and said that it is something non-negotiable for the former India skipper. Moreover, he also heaped praise on his reflexes and dives. "When it comes to Virat Kohli, intensity is non-negotiable. We've seen in the powerplay how he is at the batsmen from covers or short midwicket with his reflexes and dives,” Dilip stated.
“Even in the last series, he was sharp and at you all the time. Kohli, even at this stage of his career, he still goes long-on to long-on in the last overs, and he is the first one to run out there,” he added. Notably, currently Kohli is enjoying his time off the field with his family. He was last seen in action during the ODI series against England, where he scored 5, 65, and 74 respectively in the three games. He, alongside Rohit Sharma, will now be in action during the ODI series against West Indies in September-October 2026. The games are scheduled to be played on September 27, 30, and October 3.
