The Vitality T20 Blast is England and Wales' premier professional Twenty20 cricket competition. Established by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in 2003, it is the world's oldest professional domestic T20 league. The tournament features all 18 historic first-class county cricket clubs competing in a fast-paced, high-scoring format. It serves as a major platform for local English talent to showcase their skills alongside elite international overseas players, all fighting for the prestigious title on the iconic Finals Day. The 2026 Vitality T20 Blast starts tomorrow, Friday, 22 May 2026, introducing a revamped structural format, a condensed summer window, and a historic integration with the women’s professional tier. Running until 18 July 2026, the men's tournament features 18 historic county clubs playing 116 high-octane matches across England and Wales.
The 2026 Format Revamp
To prioritize prime weekend slots, the ECB reduced the group stage from 14 games per team down to 12 group matches. The tournament has also abandoned its traditional two-group system in favor of three regional groups of six teams to increase the density of local derbies:
-
North Group: Derbyshire, Durham, Lancashire, Leicestershire, Notts, Yorkshire.
-
Central Group: Glamorgan, Gloucestershire, Northants, Somerset, Warwickshire, Worcestershire.
-
South Group: Essex, Hampshire, Kent, Middlesex, Surrey, Sussex.
