CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has now firmly rejected the speculation, putting an end to the immediate rumours surrounding the reported stake discussions. “The rumours are completely baseless,” Viswanathan told PTI, according to the report. The statement comes as attention also turns towards Dhoni’s playing future, with his participation in IPL 2027 still undecided. Dhoni did not feature for CSK during the 2026 season, making his potential return one of the biggest questions ahead of the next campaign. While the reported ownership talks have been dismissed, there has been no definitive confirmation yet about whether the veteran wicketkeeper-batter will return as a player in 2027.

“There was talk of 1.7 to 1.8 billion (USD) when RCB were bought just now. Chennai Super Kings is the same kind of franchise. You can do the valuation however you want, but this is the franchise that has five trophies and has multiple franchises outside India as well,” Chopra said.

He also added, “They have got a legacy and a lot going for them. Chennai Super Kings is a serious, serious brand. If it's worth 1.8 billion (USD) and Dhoni has asked for a 25 per cent stake in that, it is unrealistic. This isn't possible. No one gives 400 million to anyone. In fact, you have to invest 400 million to get a 25 per cent stake. It is a bizarre number. Nobody is going to give anyone 25 per cent in an IPL team.”

Chopra also added, “Then there was talk of 3.5 per cent and 5.5 per cent. I am saying that even if it's 5.5 per cent, just think about how much money it is. Two per cent, three per cent, or five per cent, that is an incredible amount of money.”
