The Big Bash League will kickstart its 2026-27, for the first time in India in Chennai. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially announced that the historic opening match between the Melbourne Renegades and Perth Scorchers will take place at Chennai's iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk) on 12 December 2026.
The decision to start the premier Australian tournament was taken to tap into the world's most lucrative cricket market, attract private investment for its franchises, and strengthen bilateral diplomatic and sports cooperation between India and Australia.
