The Mumbai batter will be hopeful of shaping his mentality in the right way and in assisting Shreyas Iyer during the games.

"I don’t talk much about batting with Rohit Bhai, Just the captaincy things – by seeing him & asking a lot, I ask about the mindset and thinking under pressure with all that, I will try to help Shreyas,” stated Tilak Varma on his conversations with Rohit Sharma. The two of them have been sharing the dressing room with Mumbai Indians for quite some time and they would have had a lot of conversations. Tilak Varma could play a huge role as the Vice Captain of the side considering Shreyas Iyer’s absence from the shortest format in the international stage for a long time.

Tilak’s experience vital in assisting Shreyas as T20I vice-captain

India’s T20I side has been undergoing some key changes in the side since winning the 2024 ICC T20I World Cup with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The captaincy of Shreyas Iyer will be crucial to India in the long run as the next T20 World Cup is a couple of years away. Tilak Varma’s role in the side as the Vice Captain will not be just a tag as he is one of the experienced players in India’s T20 setup. Having played almost 50 T20Is for India, Tilak Varma’s experience in playing alongside the greats of the game would play a key role in shaping his mentality in pressure situations.

Since the retirement of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from the T20I setup, Suryakumar Yadav took up the role and he did a fabulous job for the side. There have been quite some new inclusions in the squad and a major task will be to select the final playing squad for the side. India will be looking to establish themselves on the international stage in the shortest format of the game with some fresh faces gearing up to take charge.

As India gears up for their next challenge against England in the white-ball format, Shreyas Iyer and Tilak Varma will be under the radar of all the experts and fans. There have been contrasting opinions regarding the decisions undertaken by the BCCI and the players will be looking to prove themselves. Tilak Varma could be in line as the next captain of the side in the future considering his recent performances and experience with the squad.
