Following Rajasthan Royals’ heartbreaking defeat to the Gujarat Titans in the Qualifier 2, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi broke down into tears in the dugout. The teenager carried the entire Royals batting unit on his shoulders with his splendid 96 off just 47 balls.

It was his 6th half century of the season and he was already heartbroken for missing out on his hundred. But what hurt him even further was the elimination of his side as he did everything he possibly could but it wasn’t enough. It could be a bit too much for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to contain the emotion as he looked devastated in the dugout.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s temperament and emotions have always been visible on the field in different instances and many of the fans have caught it as well. Even though his batting style would seem like a veteran, his character and behaviour could suggest otherwise.

The youngster missed out on three well deserved centuries and he seemed heartbroken every time. Nonetheless, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has finished as the highest run-scorer for the Royals with 776 runs and only Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharshan could pose a threat to the youngster.

Sooryavanshi’s record-breaking season comes to an abrupt end

Despite holding the Orange Cap and bringing his best onto the field every time, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi could find it difficult to believe that his campaign has come to an end. This season has been far from ordinary for the young man as he has scored 5 half-centuries and a century.

Sooryavanshi broke the record for the most number of sixes in a single edition held by Chris Gayle, by scoring 72 sixes. There is a gap of almost 30 sixes with the second highest six-hitter in this season of the IPL. His domination has been extraordinary as he also has the most number of runs in the power play in a single edition of the tournament.

Even more than the records that he achieved, what amazed the fans was his skill in countering the elite bowlers of modern day cricket. Jasprit Bumrah, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins are considered as the best bowlers of this generation but Sooryavanshi made them look like rookies.

His fearless approach has taken the cricket world by storm as the experts feel like something is off when he isn’t able to score boundaries. The success of the Rajasthan Royals have been heavily dependent on the performance of the teenager and they could have easily set a higher total yesterday if at least one of the batters could stay with him.

It is a dream for almost any player to win the IPL and when a player has contributed to the side’s success like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, this is a very natural reaction. He will have to keep his chin up as this is just another season and he could get the Royals an IPL title in the coming season as well. Rajasthan Royals will have an absolute no-brainer decision to make regarding the retention of Sooryavanshi ahead of the IPL 2027 mega auction.
