Deepesh Devendran who was the team-mate of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the Under 19 World Cup is turning heads with raw pace in the TNPL. The young Tamil Nadu fast bowler has been consistently clocking over 140 km/h in the 2026 edition of the TNPL, and has already touched 145 and even 146 km/h. On his debut for Siechem Madurai Panthers he was impressive with his pace throughout the game. In the 16th over of the innings, which was the final over of his spell, he touched 146 kph off the first ball.
He breached the 140 kph mark thrice more in the same over, using his express pace to beat the batters and conceding just two runs. For an 18-year-old still finding his feet in senior domestic cricket, that’s serious pace. He also has enough variations to keep batters guessing, which makes him a very good bowler in the shorter format.
The videos of his spell have gone viral on social media with fans impressed with his effortless action and pace. Deepesh was part of the same India Under-19 side as Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the young batter who has already made a name for himself. While Suryavanshi grabbed headlines with the bat, Deepesh was one of the key bowlers in that group. On his TNPL debut against Trichy Grand Cholas, Deepesh stole the show picking up 1 wicket and giving just 25 runs which helped restrict the opposition to 173/7 before Madurai Panthers chased the target with two balls to spare.
From U19 World Cup winning campaign to becoming TNPL pace sensation
In the Indian Under-19 team, Devendran stood out for his ability to generate genuine pace and bounce. He was the leading wicket-taker at the Under-19 Asia Cup with 14 wickets in five matches at an average under 12. He also took a five-wicket haul in a Youth Test against Australia and regularly troubled batters with his height and speed. Those performances earned him a place in India’s squad for the 2026 Under-19 World Cup, where he helped the team lift their sixth Under 19 World Cup title.
Deepesh was a key member of India’s victorious U19 World Cup team. He featured in five matches during the tournament, claiming six wickets, including two in the final against England. Many people see the raw materials considering he is 6 feet tall and has the pace, bounce, and a few clever slower balls. He has made a brilliant start to his TNPL campaign and the focus will be on him going forward. The 18 year old will be keen to stay fit and continue his good form.
