During the match between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the Gujarat Titans, the dismissal of Rajat Patidar sparked a bit of controversy in terms of the fairness of the catch. Dinesh Karthik had bluntly criticised the umpires as the catch was considered to be a fair one. The catch was taken by Jason Holder and at first glance, it felt like the ball was being dragged through the ground. The umpires were satisfied with the background check and did not proceed to send it upstairs. There was visible disappointment in the dugout as Virat Kohli was seen to be debating with the umpires. Even after the dismissal Andy Flower was seen having a word with the officials as they weren't satisfied that it was a clean catch.
Rajat Patidar had hit the ball straight up in the air and at first Arshad Khan thought that Kagiso Rabada and Jason Holder had collided and that the catch was dropped. But surprisingly, Jason Holder pulled off a stunner and the catch was deemed to be a fair one. With such technology available, such errors have very little room to take place but this instance has yet again sparked a controversy. During the mid-match interview with Dinesh Karthik, he slammed the umpires for the poor decision-making.

Controversy aside, RCB's batting collapse hands Gujarat Titans the upper hand
"From what we saw, Rajat Patidar was clearly not out in any way. When Jason Holder took the catch, the ball touched the ground in his hand. This can never be given out. If umpiring decisions are made like this, there’s honestly nothing more to say. Even with so much technology available, if such clear situations are judged like this, then it’s really disappointing. The standard of umpiring needs to improve, otherwise it ruins the game. Very poor, very poor. The umpiring is being heavily criticized," said Dinesh Karthik on the decision regarding Rajat Patidar's dismissal.
There are indeed two sides to the coin as the umpires might have felt that Jason Holder was in complete control of the catch. However, that is no excuse for the batting lapse that took place from RCB's side. Despite the number of wickets that were falling, they did not take the cautious approach. Devdutt Padikkal tried to stay at the crease for long but was undone by a brilliant ball from Rashid Khan. Even the impact player Venkatesh Iyer couldn't contribute as much and the Gujarat Titans will be the obvious favourites to win the game from here on in.
With a total of 155 against the Gujarat Titans, the Bengaluru bowlers will have very little to bowl at. RCB will have their hopes pinned on Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood for some early couple of wickets.
