The Royal Challengers Bengaluru clinched their second Women’s Premier League (WPL) title on Thursday evening at the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium in Kotambi. RCB pulled themselves out of multiple dire situations and emerged victorious to add another star on their jersey. It was the Delhi Capital’s fourth consecutive defeat in the final in four WPL seasons.

After RCB’s historic win, Virat Kohli took to his social media handles and congratulated the entire team. The RCB legend appreciated Smriti Mandana and her team for making RCB and its fans proud.

“Champions again. Keeping the RCB flag flying high and something that each one of you can be proud of. To smriti and the whole squad and the management team, a big congratulations for this tremendous victory. You guys deserve this undoubtedly. Enjoy the moment and embrace the love of our amazing fans,” Kohli wrote in an Instagram post.

What happened in the final?

The champions won the toss and invited Delhi to bat first who put together a mammoth total of 203/4 in 20 overs. The Royal Challengers came out all guns blazing in the second innings and did not look back despite losing an early wicket. Smriti Mandana led her side perfectly and played a captain’s inning to lead her to another WPL title. With this win, Mandana is now the joint most successful skipper in the history of the competition alongside Harmanpreet Kaur who has also won two titles for Mumbai.

It was an all-round performance from the Capitals with captain Jemimah Rodrigues scoring a hard fought 57 off 37 balls. Smriti Mandana led the chase for the Royal Challengers and put together a 165 run stand with Georgia Voll. Mandana scored 87 off 41 balls while Voll notched up 79 off 54. After Mandana’s dismissal, It seemed as if the game had turned towards the Capitals, but Radha Yadav decided to change the script with two back-to-back fours and won the final for RCB.
