Sri Lanka A cricketer Vishen Halambage has allegedly been fined by match referee Pradeep Jeyapragash following his heated on-field physical and verbal altercation with India A's teen player Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. According to reports, match referee Pradeep Jeyapragash handed down the fine to Vishen Halambage based on a direct report from the on-field umpires, bypassing a formal, International Cricket Council (ICC)-style hearing. An "A-team" tournament is not an official senior international tour, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) handled the disciplinary process directly. Reports from Cricbuzz state that Halambage was treated as the primary instigator of the fight. He received the heaviest fine for his repeated verbal attacks and for taunting the 15-year-old Indian player, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The clash involved aggressive taunting and physical shoving. Under standard cricket codes of conduct, this behavior falls under Level 1 offenses for inappropriate physical contact and using abusive language.

A Level 1 penalty typically results in an official reprimand and a deduction of up to 50 percent of a player's match fee. Since the match referee acted immediately on what the field umpires saw, Halambage was sanctioned without a long, drawn-out trial. Interestingly, Sri Lanka A wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella was also fined by the match referee. Dickwella actually acted as the peacemaker during the argument. He ran in to pull Sooryavanshi and Halambage apart before things got worse. The referee clarified that Dickwella's fine had nothing to do with the big fight. Instead, he was penalized for a completely different reason during the game, which experts believe was likely for excessive appealing to the umpires.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi caught in fight with Sri Lankan batsman during match

Indian teen cricketer Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was involved in a major on-field fight with Sri Lanka A's Vishen Halambage right after a tense Super Over finish in Dambulla. While Halambage faced heavy fines for starting the fight, match referee Pradeep Jeyapragash decided not to give Sooryavanshi any punishment, fine, or suspension. The tension had been building between the two players throughout the One-Day Tri-Series tournament. Halambage had been reportedly mocking and sledging the 15-year-old Sooryavanshi since their very first match on June 9. The taunts got worse when Sooryavanshi walked out to bat in the Super Over. When Sri Lanka A won the match, Halambage allegedly ran toward the Indian batters and yelled, "Match over… now you go home. This is not the IPL".

Losing his cool after the constant verbal attacks, Sooryavanshi turned around and physically shoved Halambage. According to reports from Cricbuzz, the match officials chose not to penalize the young Indian opener because of how the fight started. Senior Sri Lankan players actually felt bad about how Halambage behaved. After the match, they approached Sooryavanshi to personally apologize for their teammate's actions. The game was full of high drama even before the fight broke out. India A was hit with 10 penalty runs during the game because a bowler ran on the protected middle area of the pitch. This penalty directly helped Sri Lanka A tie the score and push the game into a Super Over, which they even\tually won.
