Vaibhav Sooryavanshi recently made bright headlines in Zimbabwe and how as he played what was his first ever or maiden series for Team India wearing proudly the jersey against what seemed to be a visibly fidgety and unsure looking Sikandar Raza side.
The impact of Sooryavanshi
The big impact of the belligerent left handed batter was not just the fact that this was his maiden outing in Team India jersey representing the country at the highest level but also the fact that in just 3 T20I outings and that too, for the first time ever, he was able to hit 2 half centuries.
New and Bright Beginnings
After he began his Indian innings for the first time ever but not before a fluent mini score, the young 15-year-old would hit a maiden half century in his very next game, which was the 2nd T20I contest of the series. Following that score, Sooroyavanshi, according to a tireless act with the bat struck a memorable 81 run knock.
This was off 49 odd deliveries and featured 4 sixes and 8 boundaries. What mattered in this particular knock was the very fact that this was a more composed and settled knock in that the young Indian opener stayed put at the wicket for no fewer than 15 overs, which is when his wicket fell.
Reflecting on the sheer importance of that particular innings was none other than VVS Laxman who had spent time with the team visiting Zimbabwe. And the great test cricketer noted-

“What you saw from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was a mature innings because it was a huge ground and the wicket was slow, with the ball stopping a bit. I thought the Zimbabwe bowlers had a plan against him today, and he countered that plan. It was a very, very mature knock from Vaibhav”.
As far as the future of the Indian side is concerned, then Sooryavanshi who has both time and age on his side is definitely a part of the long term planning of drafting and shaping up the talented youth that represents the country. He is all of 15 years of age and such mature efforts as one saw in Zimbabwe are definitely going to hold him in good stead.
