The India-Pakistan clash was set to be held on 15th February but a few days back the government of Pakistan said that their team will not take the field for this game and they will be boycotting the match against India. ICC is expected to hold a meeting on this issue in the coming days and as of now there is no clarity on what would be happening.
India have dominated the rivalry winning 7-1 in the last 8 matches of the WT20 and last year they beat Pakistan thrice in Asia Cup. They refused to collect the trophy from PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi amid tensions between both countries. This match was set to be played on 15th February at Colombo but now with Pakistan set to forfeit the match this could be a big blow for the broadcasters.
Defending champions India have been in sublime form and recently won the T20I series against New Zealand 4-1. Under Gautam Gambhir they have continued to be a dominant force in the T20Is and they are one of the favorites in this WT20. India will be playing a warm up match against South Africa on February 4 before they go into the WT20. They have a few injury concerns with the availability of Washington Sundar yet to decided. Meanwhile Tilak Varma played a warm up match for India A and looks set to be fit for the WT20
India are in Group A alongside Pakistan, United States of America, Netherlands, and Namibia. The upcoming WT20 will start with Pakistan taking on Netherlands in the tournament opener in Colombo on February 7, co-hosts India will face off against the USA later in the day.
