Ishan Kishan broke plenty of records on his way to a century in the Final of the SMAT. Jharkhand and Haryana reached the Final by ending up on top of their respective Super League groups. Jharkhand lost to Andhra in their previous outing, but had a nine-match victory streak prior to that which helped them finish on top of Group A. Haryana, on the other hand, beat Hyderabad to overtake them and top the Group B standings. Ishan Kishan brought up his sixth T20 ton off 45 balls with a one-handed six over cover off medium-pacer Anshul Kamboj’s bowling.

Jharkhand were put into bat first and lost Virat Singh early but Ishan Kishan kept going and scored a wonderful century. The partnership between Kumar Kushagra and Kishan was 177 runs for the second wicket. This was the highest partnership in the final of the tournament and seventh in the tournament overall. Kishan raced to 46 at the end of the powerplay. He then completed his century with a glorious one-handed six. Kishan was eventually clean bowled for 101 off 49 balls by Sumit Kumar in the 15th over of Jharkhand’s innings.

This was his second century of the ongoing tournament, after his 50-ball unbeaten 113 against Tripura last month. Kishan also equalled Abhishek Sharma’s record for most centuries in the history of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy by raising his fifth hundred in the tournament. He became only the second batter ever to hit a ton in a SMAT final., and eventually falls for 101 off 49.

Ishan Kishan has been in great form in the SMAT and leads the run charts with 517 runs in 10 innings at a strike rate of 197.32. He has also captained Jharkhand beautifully. Jharkhand have scored 262 runs in 20 overs on the back of his century.
