Besides a lot of sublime cricketing action that’s currently taking place in different parts of the world with Sri Lanka ready to host India for a major test campaign and Pakistan already locked with the West Indies in what’s turning out to be a mega contest at Trinidad’s Queen’s Park Oval, there’s no dearth in entertaining white ball franchise cricket in the form of the noted Delhi Premier League.

With Delhi, the national capital of India, already getting its mini version of the IPL, if it could be said in that way, teams from each different direction of the NCR region are currently engaged in what’s turning out to be a proper T20 format battle.

And one of the recent games, yet another contest that went down the wire, produced something so unexpectedly brilliant that is not just making news nationally but has sort of captured the die hard cricket fans’ attention from different parts of the world as many content creators and sports bloggers continue to be stunned by it whilst making corners on it over social media in a non stop loop.

So here’s what happened, in a very recent contest that was held between the Outer Delhi Warriors and the New Delhi Tigers, the captain of the New Delhi Tigera side effected a run out that was so breathtakingly bizarre, freak even that not only did it ultimately help swing things back his team’s way but may actually go down in cricketing history as a dismissal that none expected to even occur in the first place.  

What really happened! 

It ought to be noted that the New Delhi Tigers skipper Himmat Singh first misfielded at mid-off region and that too, on the final ball against Outer Delhi Warriors’ run chase. That was with the Warriors needing one run to win with one ball to go. In frustration at having missed hitting the stumps, something captured remarkably well on the camera, the skipper Himmat kicked the loose ball in an almost football-style manner.

Incredibly enough, the white ball struck the non-striker’s stumps, and thus running out Pratham Saluja who was at that end. This was before he could complete the winning run.

Surreal stuff for real! 

For anyone asking if such a kind of run out dismissal had ever been seen on the cricket field in any contest held insofar, it ought to be said that no such thing has ever happened. At least not with the person actually effecting the run out looking clearly bemused and absurd at having missed the stumps and thus kicking the ball in the end to make the run out happen for real!

But hey, isn’t that what they say about the great game of cricket that we ought to expect the unexpected?
