Royal Challengers Bengaluru are taking on Sunrisers Hyderabad in the opening match of the IPL 2026. It has been an excellent start to the new season as RCB opted to bowl first and had Sunrisers Hyderabad in all sorts of trouble at 29/3. Jacob Duffy did most of the damage as SRH were in a tough position. Stand-in captain Ishan Kishan along with Heinrich Klassen consolidated the innings and put up a massive partnership to bring SRH back in the game. Just as they were going, Phil Salt produced a brilliant piece of fielding as he took a stunning catch to dismiss the dangerous Heinrich Klassen. Watch the video here.
Romario Shepherd was the bowler and it was a back of the length delivery to which Klassen heaved it to the midwicket boundary but Phil Salt at mid-wicket took a stunning catch as he went down close to the ropes. The third umpire was called in and multiple angles were checked and it showed that Salt took a clean catch and no part of his body was touching the cushion. It was a stunning effort from Phil Salt.
This was a very crucial wicket for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru as the partnership between Kishan and Klassen was threatening and they had taken SRH to 126/3 in 13 overs. Shepherd provided the breakthrough but more than the bowler this wicket belongs to the fielder Phil Salt who showed terrific athleticism and also game awareness to complete the catch. Earlier in the game SRH lost three wickets quickly as Jacob Duffy picked up a three-wicket haul on his RCB debut.
Ishan Kishan and Klassen counter attacked really well as they put up a partnership of more than 90 runs to bring SRH right back in the game. Just as SRH were motoring along really well, this moment of brilliance from Salt put RCB ahead in the game. After this wicket, SRH lost a few more wickets and that catch has definitely made a big difference to the overall total. Kishan smashed a half century and kept Sunrisers Hyderabad in the game as they went past 150 and will hope for a good
finish.
