Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) suffered an early setback in their IPL 2026 clash against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Lucknow as Rishabh Pant was run out in a bizarre and unfortunate fashion. Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, Delhi Capitals made an immediate impact, reducing LSG to 36/1 in just 4.3 overs.

The dramatic moment unfolded in the third over when Mukesh Kumar delivered a full ball to Mitchell Marsh. Marsh struck it firmly straight back towards the bowler, and in a reflex action, Mukesh managed to get a fingertip on it. What followed was pure misfortune for Pant. The slight deflection sent the ball crashing into the stumps at the non-strikerā€™s end, catching Pant well out of his crease.  

Pant, who was backing up quite a long way, had no chance of making it back in time. The wicketkeeper-batter departed for 7 off 9 balls, with just one boundary to his name. It marked a disappointing end to what was an important outing for him, especially as he was opening the inningsā€”a role that has been under scrutiny.
