Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) suffered an early setback in their IPL 2026 clash against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Lucknow as Rishabh Pant was run out in a bizarre and unfortunate fashion. Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, Delhi Capitals made an immediate impact, reducing LSG to 36/1 in just 4.3 overs.

The dramatic moment unfolded in the third over when Mukesh Kumar delivered a full ball to Mitchell Marsh. Marsh struck it firmly straight back towards the bowler, and in a reflex action, Mukesh managed to get a fingertip on it. What followed was pure misfortune for Pant. The slight deflection sent the ball crashing into the stumps at the non-striker’s end, catching Pant well out of his crease.

Pant, who was backing up quite a long way, had no chance of making it back in time. The wicketkeeper-batter departed for 7 off 9 balls, with just one boundary to his name. It marked a disappointing end to what was an important outing for him, especially as he was opening the innings—a role that has been under scrutiny.

The dismissal shifted early momentum in Delhi’s favour, as LSG lost a key batter just when they were trying to build a solid foundation in the powerplay. Pant’s aggressive intent was visible, but luck was certainly not on his side in this instance.

Mukesh Kumar’s quick reflexes and presence of mind played a crucial role in the dismissal, even though it came in an unconventional manner. Such moments often define the flow of T20 games, and Delhi Capitals capitalized on this opportunity to put pressure on the LSG batting lineup.

With the score at 36/1 and the run rate hovering around 8, LSG still had a platform, but losing Pant early meant the middle order would need to step up. The focus now shifts to how LSG rebuilds and whether they can recover from this unexpected blow against a disciplined DC bowling attack.
