Former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma lost his cool when the umpire checked his bat’s thickness during the clash against RCB. The five-time champions were up against the reigning champions in the 20th game of the IPL 2026 at home, Wankhede Stadium. Batting first, the Rajat Patidar-led side put up a mammoth total of 240 runs at the loss of four wickets, owing to three fifties.

The Indians were hoping to make their way back in the game with the bat and record their first win in three games. As openers Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton came in to bat, the former MI skipper was caught in an off-field moment. Right before stepping in, the umpire checked the thickness of Sharma’s bat. However, the MI batter was seen getting frustrated at him after the umpire after the bat-gauge failed to pass through Sharma’s bat easily.

The moment was caught on camera, and Sharma’s reaction went viral in no time.

Mumbai Indians suffer third loss in a row

The game saw five-time IPL champions suffer their third loss of the season as they failed to chase the giant total. While Sherfane Rutherford remained not out at 71 runs, other players failed to put up a decent batting show. Skipper Hardik Pandya put up 40 runs off 22 balls while Rickelton came up with 37 runs. Suryakumar Yadav posted 33 runs in 22 balls. The Bengaluru-based franchise recorded an 18-run win over MI.

Reflecting on the loss, Hardik Pandya said, “We really need to reflect, really need to see what best we can do and how we can get that momentum and that click which we require. We have a couple of days off from here and we will play again. To be very honest, now a lot of things need to be rethought. Definitely, it’s not working. A couple of games we have won the toss, but maybe we need to see what other options we have as a batting group or bowling group.”

The Indians will now be up against Punjab Kings on Thursday, April 16.
